Paging from the Paging Screen > Understanding the Paging Screen

Person or Function Exception Status

The current status for a person or function displays in the Status column and is represented by an icon in the icon column. The status can be any of the status options or a currently scheduled exception, such as REFERRAL, PAGE BLOCK, or COVERAGE. A status does not display for a message group, on-call group, or a personal message group.

By default, Smart Web is configured to not allow a person or a function assigned an exception to be paged. However, your system may be configured to allow the operator to take a message for that individual. In this case, MESSAGE ONLY displays in the Type column, which signifies that a message can be taken for the individual and retrieved at a later time by an operator or by that individual in the Personal Profile screen in Smart Web.

COVERAGE Exception

This icon signifies that the person or function is being covered by another individual.

Depending on how your system is configured, the operator is either not allowed to add the person to the recipient list or is allowed take a message for the individual.

When the operator is not allowed to add the person to the recipient list, a message dialog displays, explaining that the individual is being covered by someone else. You can click the OK button to choose to add the person providing coverage to the recipient list.

Overriding the Coverage Exception

Smart Web can be configured to allow an operator to override a coverage exception assigned to a person or function. When the operator pagers a person or a function currently being covered by someone else, the operator has the choice of paging the person being covered instead of paging the person providing coverage.

For an example, please refer to Paging using the Coverage Exception Override Feature.

PAGE BLOCK Exception

This icon signifies that the person or function has been assigned a page block. This person cannot be paged.

Depending on how your system is configured, the operator is either not allowed to add the person to the recipient list or is allowed take a message for the individual.

When the operator is not allowed to add the person to the recipient list, a message dialog displays, explaining that the individual cannot be paged. The individual is not added to the recipient list. Click the OK button to close the dialog.

REFERRAL Exception

This icon signifies that the person or function has been assigned a referral exception.

When the operator is not allowed to add the person to the recipient list, a message dialog displays, explaining that the individual has a referral exception. The individual is not added to the recipient list. Click the OK button to close the dialog.
