Paging from the Paging Screen > Understanding the Paging Screen

Page Type Examples: Numeric, Alphanumeric, and Message Only

The type of pager that will receive the message depends on pagers assigned to the individual.

If an individual is assigned one operable pager, the common messaging type is the type for that pager.

If more than one operable pager is assigned to the individual and an order number is not assigned to any of the pagers, the common messaging type is the paging type that can be accepted by all of the assigned pagers. For example, if the individual has an ALPHA pager and a NUMERIC pager, the common messaging type would be NUMERIC.

If more than one operable pager is assigned to the individual and an order number is assigned to at least one of the pagers, the common messaging type is the same type as the pager assigned the highest order number.

Depending on whether a page recipient is able to receive a page and the type of pager selected, one of three types of paging message screens can display when a page is sent.

The Numeric Paging screen displays when at least one recipient can only receive a numeric page. Only numbers and characters from the allowed set of characters can be entered. The allowed set of characters is determined for the pager type in Smart Center.

The Alphanumeric Paging screen displays when all recipients can receive an alphanumeric page or a message. Recipients that cannot receive a page are sent a message instead of a page.

The Message Only screen displays when none of the recipients can receive a page.

Paging Confirmation Dialog and Message

Normally, after a message is sent using the Compose a Message screen, a confirmation dialog displays to verify that the message was sent. Your system can be configured to display a different message than the default message, or configured so that a confirmation dialog does not display at all.

Please contact your system administrator or Spok representative for help configuring this feature.

Paging Templates

Paging templates enable you to ensure that specific information is included in the paging screen when sending an alphanumeric page. The templates are created in Smart Center and can be assigned to a particular person or on-call group. Paging templates that can be used by for all pages sent can also be created. When a page is sent to that person or on-call group, the operator can choose the paging template from a Paging Templates list box. When selected, the paging screen changes to show the message template fields.

For example, a CALL BACK message template could include a field in which the operator should enter a call back number, and another field for a message. Fields can be made required, so that the page cannot be sent until information has been entered in the field.

Paging a Device Registered with Spok Mobile

If the device to which the message is being sent is registered with Spok Mobile, the Two-Way Messaging icon displays in the Compose a Message screen. For an example, please refer to Sending a Message to a Pager Registered with Spok Mobile.
