Paging from the Paging Screen > Understanding the Paging Screen

Assigning a Message Priority to a Page

Smart Web can be configured to allow a message priority to be assigned to a page when the page is sent. If this feature is enabled, a Priority list box is displayed in the Compose a Message screen. The user can select a message priority of LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH from the list box.

The actual message priority assigned to each option is configurable. By default, LOW is assigned a message priority of 1, MEDIUM is assigned a 2, and HIGH is assigned a 3.

Message Priority and Spok Mobile

If the pager to which the page is being sent is registered with Spok Mobile, the message priority also determines the ring tone used by the device when the page is received by the device. The ring tone options are specified on the device. For example, if the message priority is LOW, when the message is received on the device, the ring tone assigned to the LOW priority on the device is used to alert the recipient that a Spok Mobile message has been received.

Prerequisites

A set of prerequisites must be met before this feature can be used.

      Smart Web must be configured to use the message priority feature. This is done by setting the ALLOW_MESSAGE_PRIORITY_SELECTION variable in the Smart Web configuration file to TRUE. This can only be set by your system administrator or Spok representative.

      The message priority options (LOW, MEDIUM, and HIHG) should be configured to the desired message priority. This can only be set by your system administrator or Spok representative. The defaults are:

      LOW = 1

      MEDIUM = 2

      HIGH = 3

      The person logged into Smart Web who is sending the page must have the following option selected in his or her listing record in Smart Center: Enable Allow Priority Selection option in the Privileges tab in the Listings form.

Selecting a Message Priority

When the feature has been enabled and all prerequisites have been met, the Priority list box displays in the Compose a Message screen. Select the desired message priority option from the list box.
