Working with Smart Web

Logging in to Smart Web

A user name and password is required to be able to access some of the screens. The user can log in the first time either of these screens is accessed during a browser session, or the user can log in using the Login link. The Login link displays in the upper right corner of the screen.

The user name is the messaging ID assigned to the person, function, or on-call group logging in. The password is the alpha or numeric password assigned to the person, function, or on-call group listing record.

NOTE: If you are logged in as an on-call group, you cannot assign an exception to the on-call group in the Exceptions section in the Profile screen. Exceptions cannot be assigned to an on-call group.

After the user logs in during a browser session, all screens that require a user name and password are available. If the user logs out of Smart Web, or if the browser session times out, the user will have to log in again. In addition, a set of hyperlinks that enable the user to perform more functions is available in the title bar. The links enable a user to review his or her active messages, on-call assignments, change the log-in password, and log out of Smart Web.

Logging in when using SSO (Single Sign-On)

If your site uses SSO (Single Sign-On), you may not see the Smart Web log in screen when you launch Smart Web if you have already logged into another Smart Suite web application When you enter your SSO user name and password, the system displays Smart Web and automatically logs you in as the person associated with the SSO log in name.

Using the COG Selection Feature

Some Smart Web systems may be configured to select a specific COG (Controlling Operator Group) when Smart Web is launched or a user logs in. A Smart Web skin file name can be specified for a COG. The Smart Web skin file determines how Smart Web looks to the user when that COG is selected in Smart Web. For example, the skin file may specify a unique logo or colors.

If a user is assigned a COG in his or her listing record, when that user logs in to Smart Web, the assigned COG is used as the default and is selected in the Smart Web COG list box. The records available to the user in Smart Web are limited to the records that are also assigned to the specified COG. The user is allowed to select a different COG in Smart Web if they need to access records in a different COG or the records assigned to all COGs.

For more information about this feature, please refer to Using the COG Selection Feature.

Displaying a Banner before Log in

Your Spok web applications may be configured to display a page of text before the user is allowed to log in. This page, or banner, can be used to convey any kind of message the user should read before logging in, such as a security message.

After the user has read the banner text, he or she should click the OK button in the page to display the standard the log in and password fields. The user can then log into the system using the standard log in procedure.

Last Log in Information

Your system may be configured to display information about the last time a user logged into the system. The date and time of the last successful log in and last failed log in attempt are displayed, as well as the IP address of the PC on which the log in attempt was made. The number of failed log in attempts since the last successful log in is also displayed.

Click the OK button to close the dialog.

Using the Remember Me Feature

Smart Web can be configured to display the Remember Me option, which enables Smart Web to remember the user that was last logged into the PC Client. This feature is useful if the Smart Web browser session expires, the log out time for Smart Web expires, or the state of Smart Web changes and user’s session is interrupted.

For more information about this feature, please refer to Using the Remember Me Log in Feature.
