Paging from the Paging Screen

Working with Message Priority

A message priority is used to determine the priority assigned to the message. The message priority can come from the priority assigned to the recipient or from the priority attached the message.

Paging a Person Assigned a Message Priority in the Smart Center Listing Record

A message priority can be assigned to a listing record in the Message Priority field in the Listings form in Smart Center. The message priority is used when paging the individual from any of the Spok applications, other than Spok e.Notify. Spok e.Notify does not use the message priority assigned to a listing record when determining priority.

When a person is paged from Smart Web and more than one message priority may be available for the person, such as from their listing record and from the message, the highest message priority takes precedence. The lowest message priority is 1.

For example, a person has a message priority of 5 assigned to his or her listing record and a page is sent from Smart Web. The page message is assigned a message priority of 2. The system compares both message priorities and assigns the higher priority to the page when it is put in the page queue. In this example, the page is assigned a priority of 5.  In another example, if the person was assigned a message priority of 1 and the message was assigned a message priority of 2, the system assigns the message a priority of 2 when it is put in the page queue.

NOTE: In Smart Web, a page can be assigned a message priority from any of the following methods:

Smart Web has been set up to use the message priority feature. If this feature is enabled, a Priority list box is displayed in the Compose a Message screen. The user can select a message priority of LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH from the list box. The actual message priority assigned to each option is configurable. By default, LOW is assigned a message priority of 1, MEDIUM is assigned a 2, and HIGH is assigned a 3. For more information about this feature, please refer to Assigning a Message Priority to a Page.

Smart Web can be configured to assign a default message priority when a user who is not logged in sends a page.

Paging using the Smart Web Message Priority Feature

Smart Web can be configured to allow a message priority to be assigned to a page when the page is sent.

If the pager to which the page is being sent is registered with Spok Mobile, the message priority also determines the ring tone used by the device when the page is received by the device. The ring tone options are specified on the device. For example, if the message priority is LOW, when the message is received on the device, the ring tone assigned to the LOW priority on the device is used to alert the recipient that a Spok message has been received.
